Comodo Free Firewall

Comodo's free Firewall product offers a richer feature set and better protection than paid-for versions from the likes of Mcaffee or Zonealarm. Suitable for both home users and businesses alike, the firewall features both inbound and outbound packet filtering in combination with robust outbound application filtering at the network layer. The new-look interface facilitates quick and easy access to all major settings, including the powerful and highly configurable security rules interface.

In point of fact, Comodo Firewall Pro is one of the most impenetrable personal firewalls on the market. There are many reasons why its technology is so powerful:
  • Unlike other firewalls, Comodo Firewall Pro does not need a single configuration change to enable its full strength
  • It classifies more than 10,000 applications according to their risk level such as SAFE, SPYWARE, and ADWARE.
  • It uniquely passed 16 serious 3rd party leak test utilities with an outstanding success rate not seen in any other firewalls. It also passed Comodo's Patent Injection Leak Test which emulates a hacker technique typically used in outbound Trojan attacks.
  • Windows security center integration
  • Full Application Behavior analysis
  • More powerful and intuitive security rules interface
  • Completely redesigned interface including "Smart" pop-up alerts
  • Advanced network, application and application component monitoring
In addition, the Comodo Firewall Pro helps with connection details like IP addresses and ports. It also provides free proactive technical support.

  • Instant messaging - instant doom...

Instant messaging has become increasingly popular lately, but these programs can pose a threat to users

Programs like MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, AIM, etc, are more and more used as a means of communication among users. However, these programs can pose a threat to users due to the possibility of sharing files, folders, or even entire disk drives.

Malware creators have found an open door in these tools to distribute their creations to a large number of computers. To this end, they use social engineering techniques to try to trick users into downloading malicious codes

A message claiming to contain some photos is the most common way of spreading this type of malware. It is easy for trusting users to accept and open these files, downloading malware onto their computers.

Addon.B and MSNPoopy.A have been the latest examples of worms designed to spread through these platforms. The first one uses MSN Messenger to send out a .zip file called Foto_celular. Once the file is run by the victim, it downloads the second component of the worm, called sexy.wm.

MSNPoopy.A uses texts like “look @ my cute new puppy :-D” or ”look @ this picture of me, when I was a kid “ to entice users into opening the attached file, which has names such as img1756 and is also compressed in .zip format.

Another example of malware that has used this type of program is MSNDiablo.A. This specimen included a link which supposedly allowed users to view a series of animations of George W. Bush. However, the link actually downloaded a Trojan

Due to the wide use of this type of malware distribution techniques, PandaLabs has prepared a series of tips for using instant messaging programs correctly

First, do not click any links or download files that come from unknown sources. If the file or link does come from a known contact, make sure the contact is actually sending you the files and it is not some kind of automatic message generated by a malicious code. Ask the contact about the files that they wanted to send you.

Always use secure passwords. The longer the password and the more various the characters it contains, the more secure it will be. Mixing letters and numbers and using capital letters is a good way of making passwords safer

Never reveal personal or confidential information in chats. This is particularly important in corporate environments, as a company’s confidential data are a primary target for cyber-crooks. Also, if you are using a public computer, be careful to disable the automatic sign-in option. This way, we will prevent other users from having free access to your instant messaging accounts.

Entering your e-mail address in a public place is a way to provide cyber-criminals with one more address to send spam to, as well as a possible target for their malicious codes. Be careful not to disclose your e-mail address unnecessarily.

  • Introducing Windows Home Server

Your family. Your stuff. Together.

Introducing Windows Home Server, a new way to simplify how you keep and share your family's photos, videos, and music.

This smart hub lives in your home and connects all the important people in your life to the good stuff that's on your computers. You can pump your family's tunes to your Xbox 360, share baby pics over the Web, and even get on your home server when you're not home. Friends and family can see and share any files you want, whether they're in another room or another country.

Your family's memories stay safer, too, with daily automatic backups that help you recover lost documents (or rescue computers that have had unfortunate accidents). Adding space to the server is also easy. So don't worry about recording too many vacation movies—Windows Home Server will keep growing and getting better.

You can find Windows Home Server through retail stores and Web sites in a wide range of new hardware products, starting in the second half of 2007. The final release of Windows Home Server will be available as a tightly integrated hardware and software solution sold by numerous companies.

Windows Home Server helps you pull together and protect all your family's files in a single, central location that makes sharing easy.
  • Protect the things you care about
  • Connect with your friends and family
  • Organize everything all in one place
  • Grow into the future
