Intel® Pentium® D Processor

Experience the powerful multitasking capabilities of an Intel® Pentium® D processor-based PC with revolutionary Intel dual-core technology.

Features and Benefits

Revved up multitasking - With an Intel Pentium D processor-based PC featuring two full processing cores, you get the flexibility and performance to handle multimedia entertainment, digital photo editing, even multiple users, simultaneously.

Your PC gets resources for multitasking, and you get to accomplish more while running multiple applications, such as editing video while downloading music.

Built for advanced applications - Get the most out of your demanding, multi-threaded applications, perfect for the new world of immersive, high-end entertainment. The Intel Pentium D processor-based PC with Intel dual-core processing technology provides the performance to take advantage of sophisticated gaming software which can result in realistic game environments and challenging game play.

Multiply your multimedia experience - Combined with a digital media adaptor and a home network, an Intel Pentium D processor-based PC allows two people to share the content from one PC - in the same room, or even from different places in the house. For example, one person can be checking email while the other uses a remote control to access digital photos stored on the same PC and view them on the TV from the comfort of their living room.

How is Dual-Core Processing Different from Hyper-Threading Technology?

The Intel dual-core processor is an evolution of HT Technology. Both HT Technology and a dual-core processor enable a multi-threaded experience for applications written to take advantage of multiple threads, but dual-core processing brings more resources and computing throughput to the PC. Dual-core processing allows for true simultaneous computing so multiple users can access and enjoy the same PC, even from different rooms with a home network and networked devices (such as a stereo connected via a DMA).

HP adds to business notebook line-up
HP has strengthened its business notebook portfolio with six new business notebook series, including the company's thinnest and lightest notebook with optical drive to date.

Designed for frequent travelers, the 1.3kg HP Compaq nc2400 Notebook PC joins the HP Compaq tc4400, HP Compaq nc4400, HP Compaq nc6400, HP Compaq nx7400 and HP Compaq nc8430 and nw8440 Notebook PCs as well as the HP Compaq 6300 series to fill out the company's already-broad lineup of Windows Vista-capable mobile offerings.

The range now spans from sleek, lightweight ultra-portables to widescreen mobile performance models that rival desktop PCs.

Mobile connectivity is a must-have for today's business professionals, but the means to achieve this varies between organizations and each individual. HP understands this extensive variety of mobile needs and provides business customers the widest range of mobile products at virtually every price point and performance level.

HP estimates the worldwide mobile market, including notebooks, handhelds, and telecommunication and enterprise services and equipment, will increase more than 42% over today.

HP also unveiled HP Professional Innovations, a suite of hardware features and software solutions incorporated into HP Business Notebooks and accessories that are designed to enhance security, improve ease of use and help ensure reliability.

New technologies, like the HP Biometric Fingerprint Sensor, HP Disk Sanitizer and mobile Data Protection System 3D help mitigate risk, increase productivity, and improve overall mobile computing experience, so that customers can focus on their business.

All the new notebooks have been upgraded from Bluetooth 1.2 to Bluetooth 2.0, which offers users speed improvements of up to three-times.

In addition, the move from PCI wireless cards to PCI/E cards means that the new products are ready to take advantage of future technologies like 802.11n(WiMax) as an integrated solution.

We will see the first WiMax networks in South Africa this year and we will see wide adoption quit soon and it will probably be fully integrated into most mobile products by 2008.

The new notebook line-up sees the introduction of wide screens for 12-inch, 14-inch and 17-inch monitors on selected product categories. HP's business notebook accessory solutions also work across the notebook lineup for even greater ease of use and convenience, with the exception of the nc2400.

  • Continued high-speed connectivity
iBurst

The iBurst service provides you with continued high-speed connectivity to your corporate services or the Internet. Within the area of the base station network closest to you, you can maintain this connection in an always-on mode. You no longer need to wait until you get to a location which provides connectivity.

As the services on the Internet expand to include all aspects of life, many are only at their full potential if they’re available as soon as your need arises. Because you can access information at any time with iBurst, you no longer need to plan ahead or guess what information to download to local storage to use later. Similarly, any data you receive while on the move (i.e. digital photos) can be transferred immediately to the online environment for storage or for others to access. The end result is a unique user experience of the freedom that the iBurst service provides. It’ll be very hard for you to go back to an existence where the online world is not always available at your fingertips.

iBurst technology is a wide-area mobile broadband technology offering a unique combination of high speed, wide range and high base station capacity. It’s a pure IP, end-to-end system built on two primary components: base stations deployed by a network operator, much like today’s cellular services, and wireless modems or PC cards that customers use with an existing Internet appliance, such as a notebook.

Unlike voice networks such as GSM, CDMA and 3G standards - iBurst technology has been designed from the ground up to provide pure data and with the incorporation of IntelliCell technology it’s able to provide the wireless data much more efficiently than the voice based cellular networks. As a result the iBurst network is able to provide data rates of up to 1 Mbps to each user with a maximum base station capacity of 20 Mbps. As well as being superior in performance, the data delivery over an iBurst network is also significantly more economical than voice networks. The data charges for iBurst based data are comparable to that charged for wired access such as DSL. In comparison, data transferred over voice networks can be up to two orders of magnitude more expensive
