  • Wireless email

What does it do?

Intellisync Wireless Email is an award-winning solution that connects a very wide range of mobile devices to a wide range of email servers. Intellisync has different ways of working with the different classes of devices to make it easy for users to access their Email, Calendar, Contacts, Notes, and Tasks. For the core synchronization devices, messages and data from the server are downloaded and stored locally. As the device moves in and out of wireless coverage areas, connections to the server are established to send and receive information.

A great user experience

Inbox on the road - Wireless email provides the same functionality users have on the desktop when they are on the road. For example:

Emails are read, forwarded, replied to, replied-to-all, deleted, marked read/unread.
Meeting requests can be accepted, rejected, or answered tentatively.
Meeting requests can be created, including recurring meetings.
Folders can be managed, including creation and deletion.

All the changes on the road are synced on the server so users can seamlessly transition between the road and the office.

Email Attachments - Email attachments can be turned off and on, and attachments delivered can be filter
by size and by file format. Users are informed of attachments that have been filtered out, and can choose to override the filters for individual attachments that they wish to see.

Preview mail - With preview mail turned on, the user is prompted during a synchronization session with
information about the mails that are about to be delivered, including the attachment, size, truncation status, sender and subject information. Based on this information, they can request that specific mails or attachments be delivered or not delivered. Also, truncation can be "over-ruled" or an obvious junk message can be deleted prior to delivery. This lets the user get specific emails they are expecting, and enables them to block unnecessary information.

Push for email, calendar, contacts and tasks - Intellisync is the first to offer true push for Palm OS
and Pocket PC devices utilizing today's wireless networks.  The server engine will see a qualifying inbound email for a user and automatically send it out to the user's device. Without any effort, the user will receive the email in their device inbox in real time, providing an "always available" experience. Users have a great degree of control over the filters and options that drive the push activity.

The Broadest Device Support

Intellisync gives users access to their email and PIM data from a broad array of devices, with different levels of capability taking advantage of the device characteristics.

is able to work offline and connect occasionally for updates. The following devices are supported:

  • 3G HSDPA

What is HSDPA?

3G HSDPA is a 3G enhancement that delivers superior speed. Its performance is comparable to today's wireless LAN services, but with the added benefit of mobility and ubiquitous coverage. Whether you're working from home, traveling, or at your favorite coffee shop, the advantages of 3G have been undeniable, and to many people it has become an indispensable tool in communication without borders. Now Vodacom and MTN introduces 3G HSDPA - giving you access to the ever-changing global arena of communications - up to 1.8Mbps and faster than ADSL!3G HSDPA gives you instant access to seamless wide area coverage and the fastest mobile Internet and company network access available in South Africa!

How does it work?

To browse web pages or collect your email, you need to connect to the internet. The 3G Broadband Mobile Connect software is designed to let you perform the most common actions by clicking on a single button. The 3G Broadband Mobile Connect Card works with 3G HSDPA, offering connection speeds that are up to 7 times faster than a 56K PSTN modem dial-up connection. If you find yourself in an area without 3G coverage, the 3G Broadband Mobile Connect Card will keep you connected by switching seamlessly to EDGE or GPRS. The intuitive on-screen Mobile Connect software for Windows (v6.0 or later) provides:

Access to email
Web browsing
Send and receive SMSs
Chat using your existing instant messaging service
Monitor your usage for 3G ,and GPRS

The volumes of data transmitted and received are presented on the dashboard software enabling you to control the costs. The usage information is presented in megabytes and not as a financial value. It is an indication and may vary slightly from what appears on your bill.

Overview of HSDPA

High-Speed Downlink Packet Access or HSDPA is a new mobile data protocol and is sometimes referred to as a 3.5G (or "3˝G") technology. The absolute maximum theoretical speeds are:
Downlink: Up to 1.8 Mbps
Uplink: Up to 128 Kbps

To access the 3G HSDPA Broadband network you will be needing, The latest HSDPA data card that can be used with a 3G contract or with a 3G/MyMeg Bolt-on.

Unfortunately the current cards cannot be upgraded to support HSDPA. Customers will need to purchase the new HSDPA enabled Vodafone Mobile Connect cards.

Any existing pre-paid or contract 3G customer who is currently using a 3G Mobile Connect Card purchased in South Africa, can swap their card at their  approved ISP outlet for the new HSDPA card. This is FREE of charge and no extension of contract term is applied to contract customers.

Current 3G handsets are not compatible however new HSDPA enabled handsets are likely to only become available later this year.

All 3G enabled base stations have been upgraded to also support HSDPA, however the coverage is not identical as the HSDPA network is more sensitive to external influences such as indoor coverage, topography and weather conditions.

When the signal drops off you will be able to access the 3G, Edge and GPRS network in the same manner as with the 3G Data cards.

Notebooks and HSDPA

The Mobile Connect Card takes advantage of  3G Network, offering connection speeds that are up to 7 times faster than a 56K PSTN modem dial up connection. If you find yourself in an area without 3G coverage, it will keep you connected by allowing you to switch to the GPRS connection. The intuitive on-screen dashboard for (v6.0 or later) lets you use your laptop to:

Access internet-based e-mail accounts
Browse any web page
Send and receive SMS's
Chat using instant messages
Monitor your usage for 3G and GPRS
Connect to your company network using VPN

In order to access files on your company Local Area Network (LAN) you will need IT support to arrange a link between your computer network and the ISP Network.
